In the past year

We admitted 63,000 patients to our regular departments

346,000 were treated in our consultative out-patient clinics and day care facilities

23,500 hospital days were utilized

8553 babies were brought into the world

21,500 surgical procedures were performed in our 17 operating theaters

27,000 dialysis treatments were administered
“ And ye shall not harden your hearts against the poor and the needy, but heal them. ”

This quote from the 1,500-year-old oath for Jewish doctors was written by “Assaf Harofeh,” also known as Assaf the Doctor — long considered the Jewish Hippocrates.

His complete 1,000 word oath is still taken today by all students qualifying as physicians in Israel.

The Assaf Harofeh Medical Center is dedicated to his spirit and his teachings, which have provided inspiration and knowledge to all in
the pursuit of healing.

Special Projects :

* The first multidisciplinary, multi-specialty Comprehensive Breast Care Institute in Israel was inaugurated at Assaf Harofeh Medical Center in the year 2000. The concept was born and developed by the Hospital Director, Dr. Benny Davidson, an oncologist surgeon. This Institute’s modus operandi was planned to provide an accurate diagnosis and treatment program within 24-36 hours, which eliminates much indecision and fear.

* A soup kitchen for needy elderly and unemployed in a poor suburb of Ramla was opened by the Medical Center in the year 2000, with the help of a generous donor from Japan. Hundreds of hot meals are transported to Ramla from the hospital’s central kitchen day by day, and 50% of these meals are supplied directly to the home.

* A “Day for the Aged” is an event where senior members of the community are invited to spend half a day at Assaf Harofeh Medical Center. Lectures on relevant geriatric topics are given by our senior doctors, together with some social recreation. The participation rate is simply overwhelming.

* A particularly sensitive and at times unstable group is that of high school teenagers. Pediatricians from Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, especially those who are experts in juvenile medicine, lecture on a regular basis in high schools in Rishon Le Zion, mainly on topics regarding general health, drug abuse, contraception and other issues.

* A monthly “Pregnancy Outreach Program” providing valuable information to hundreds of pregnant women in the Rishon Le Zion area has been operating for several years.

* A Multi-specialty Alternative Medicine Center – SHIRAM – comprising all complementary medical professions has been in operation at the hospital since 1996. It is the first center of its kind in Israel.
