The Assaf Harofeh campus stretches over 65 acres and
employs 2,400 staff.

In the past year

We admitted 55,000 patients to our regular departments

340,000 were treated in our consultative out-patient clinics and day care facilities

275,000 hospital days were utilized

6,000 babies were brought into the world

23,000 surgical procedures were performed in our 17 operating theaters

31,200 dialysis treatments were administered
“ And ye shall not harden your hearts against the poor and the needy, but heal them. ”

This quote from the 1,500-year-old oath for Jewish doctors was written by “Assaf Harofeh,” also known as Assaf the Doctor — long considered the Jewish Hippocrates.

His complete 1,000 word oath is still taken today by all students qualifying as physicians in Israel.

The Assaf Harofeh Medical Center is dedicated to his spirit and his teachings, which have provided inspiration and knowledge to all in
the pursuit of healing.

Its physicians and researchers are actively engaged in both basic and clinical research in cooperation with Israel’s leading academic and scientific institutions. Some highlights of the international Friends’ efforts on behalf of the Hospital during the last years :

On the Front Lines, Fighting the Good Fight

PRIOR TO THE CREATION OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL, the site of Assaf Harofeh Medical Center first served as a British military hospital. After the 1948 War of Independence, the hospital became an Israeli medical
center, playing a vital role in caring for nearly a half million citizens in the surrounding area. Starting in 1950 as the National Center for Polio Victims, it has risen to become one of Israel’s top medical and teaching
facilities. Assaf Harofeh’s roots as a military hospital have not been forgotten. Today, as in the past, it serves our brave men and women of the Israeli Defense Forces throughout the country.

Assaf Harofeh Medical Center is in great need of a PET Imaging System with computerized tomography capabilities, which will eventually upgrade the cancer treatment possibilities for a population of 1,000,000 people in the central and southern parts of Israel.

As is evident the hospital could always use support in such areas as: annual campaigns, building/renovation, capital campaigns, continuing support and general/operating support. We strongly believe that the American Friends of Assaf Harofeh Medical Center should be considered as a viable candidate for funding in the future.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration of our organization. Our medical center is dedicated to the spirit of this great physician, as he said “. . . and ye shall not harden your hearts against the poor and the needy, but heal them . . . .”
